Objectives:
MiTek, a Berkshire-Hathaway company, is the world’s leading supplier of state-of-the-art engineered products and services for the building components industry. With a presence in some 20 countries worldwide, MiTek is a truly global company. Despite their size, MiTek prides themselves on their commitment to making sure each customer’s success is realized. When MiTek recognized that they needed additional space in their St. Louis, MO facility, they knew they had two options: they could go up or they could go out. Going out would have required a costly addition to their existing building, so they decided to optimize the vertical space afforded by their 30 foot ceilings with help from MiTek Mezzanine Systems.
MiTek required industrial mezzanines in two different areas of their facility, so the main challenge was developing a plan that suited the needs of both spaces. This all needed to happen with minimal disruption to regular workflow.
After field measurements were taken, the MiTek Mezzanine Systems engineering team developed two different mezzanines to fit MiTek’s needs. One was created to go over the machine shop to create a space for sales training and research & development. The second mezzanine was created to store finished products. This allowed those products to be moved off the shop floor and into a staging area prior to shipping. By utilizing their vertical space, the MiTek team was able to define areas for each operation in their facility. When MiTek needed to make a few small design changes during installation, it was not a problem: “the Accurate Installations team was very knowledgeable and able to accommodate minor design changes on the fly” explains Greg Pritchett, the General Manager of MiTek’s Machinery Division.
MiTek Mezzanine Systems was able to move some of their operations up off the shop floor to improve the overall workflow of their facility. The project came in on time, on budget and required minimal downtime in the facility. “The mezzanine systems division came in and took very precise measurements and took care of all the details. The process was not difficult at all.” -Greg Pritchett, MiTek
